April 11th Glasslands: See photos of the show here

New York - The Abbey presents a curated night at Glasslands Gallery in Williamsburg, featuring a cohesive four-band lineup, a projection installation, and an after hours DJ set. This is the first showcase organized by The Abbey, a recently founded promotions company that will expand within the year to a performance space and recording studio in Asheville, NC. The event is scheduled for April 11 and will also serve as a launch party for The Abbey. Castanets (Asthmatic Kitty), fronted by San Diego-based Ray Raposa, will headline this one-night only performance as a full band that includes Nonhorse (of Vanishing Voice). Rounding out the lineup are Lux Perpetua, Virgin Forest, and Lacrymosa.

In addition to a physical performance space, The Abbey will provide highquality recording services, and online media promotion and web design. This cutting-edge D.I.Y. model effectively serves as a self-sustained artist incubator, offering clients a place where their music and visual art can be ideated, performed, recorded, promoted and distributed. In the interim, The Abbey's organizing and curating events throughout the city.

Castanets at Asthmatic Kitty
Castanets have recorded and released three full-length albums on Asthmatic Kitty to impressive critical response, ("Castanets' Cathedral was one of the most instantly compelling records of 2004" - Pitchfork) and honed their live show to near perfect effect. The band has been on a borderline hiatus, and their triumphant return to New York should be an exciting event.

Lux Perpetua is the solo project of Justin Wolf from The Extraordinaires, who are currently on tour with Man Man. He hails from Philadelphia via Charlottesville, and creates the most natural, distinct, and intelligent music we at The Abbey have heard in a long time.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::VIRGIN FOREST:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Virgin Forest on Myspace

Virgin Forest hailing from Gainesville, FL has a long history, entwined with Phosphorescent and Castanets. This will be their second show at Glasslands. If you're into Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, Jolie Holland, or Bon Iver, they're a must-see

::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::LACRYMOSA::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::
Lacrymosa on Myspace
These gorgeous vignettes take a more classical stance on the witty pop songs of Regina Spektor, landing closer to the sprawling and delicate wist of Joanna Newsom. Intricate and tender.

The bands will be accompanied by a projection installation by Borna Sammak (if he doesn't trip acid and get kicked out), which should be way-cül. We're working on some ideas, and I'm certain it'll make this aural bombast visually spectacular, too. After Castanets there'll be a DJ set with some dank jams. DJ remains TBA.
